Large Antique Blue and White Porcelain Beer Stein Delft Style w/Lithophane by Swaine and Co. c.1920s
Description: Presented is a large antique German porcelain beer stein made around the early 1900s.
Beautiful hand-painted picture decorations in underglaze flow cobalt-blue. This type of decoration is called \"Delft style\" and is usually associated with Dutch porcelain. It shows a Nordic forest view - quite a rare subject matter.
The stein was made by the German company Swaine & Co (1854 - 1920) in Huttensteinach, Thuringia. Swaine produced very few steins, just 3 or 4 varieties, all with these Delft-style motives.
Pewter lid with matching porcelain inlay. Nice lithophane in the bottom (a picture you can see against the light) showing a tavern flirting scene. Marked with umber \"81\" in blue on the bottom rand - most likely the decorator\'s number. No manufacturer\'s mark, but Swaine steins are easily recognizable.
Excellent flawless condition. 7\" tall to the top of the thumblift, 1L capacity.
