Impressive large-scale Chinese sancai ("three-color") glazed pottery sculpture depicting a caparisoned horse with a seated court lady rider, modeled in the traditional Tang Dynasty style. The horse features a rich cobalt-blue body glaze with cream-glazed tack, bridle, and hooves, and an ochre-and-green rosette saddle blanket rendered in relief. The rider is finely detailed with a tall stylized coiffure in grey and yellow, wearing a flowing amber robe with a green sash, seated in the traditional side pose with hand extended to the reins.
The piece displays the expected fine glaze crackle (craquelure) throughout, characteristic of this type of low-fired sancai glaze, along with natural glaze pooling and variation. Hollow-cast construction with vent opening on the underside, standing on a rectangular unglazed pottery base.
A substantial, museum-quality decorative statement piece for Asian art collectors or eclectic interior display.
Measurements: 17" H x 15" L x 8" W
Condition: Vintage pre-owned condition. Expected glaze crackle/craquelure throughout (inherent to this glaze type, not damage). Some minor glaze wear visible on horse's flank consistent with age and handling. Please examine all photos closely, as they are considered part of the item description.
