Lot of 3 Antique 1890s Cabinet Cards Waco TX & Midwest in Rare Parsons Palace Ca: $19.50
Up for sale is a historically compelling lot of three (3) original 19th-century cabinet card portraits. While the photographs themselves were produced by other regional studios, they have spent the last century stored together inside their rare, original Parsons Palace Car Photo Co. protective advertising sleeves. This lot offers an incredible crossover appeal for collectors of antique photography, Texas/Midwestern history, and railroad ephemera. It serves as an authentic example of how families reused highly prized traveling railroad studio envelopes to protect their heirloom family portraits. The 3 Cabinet Card Portraits Included: - Portrait 1 (Deane - Waco, Texas): A handsome vignette portrait of a young man looking to the side, wearing a high-stand starched collar and vest. The bottom front features the embossed studio mark for the prominent photographer Deane located at 414 1/2 Austin Ave., Waco, Texas.
- Portrait 2 (W.E. Bush - Bloomington, Illinois): A sharp portrait of a dapper young man wearing a boutonnière, formal vest, and tie. The bottom front and the reverse feature an ornate, aesthetic-period engraving of a hummingbird and bamboo for W.E. Bush Photographic Studio (South Side Square, Bloomington, Illinois).
- Portrait 3 (Hinkel - Sedalia, Missouri): A sepia bust portrait of a man wearing a bow tie and formal jacket, produced by Hinkel Studio in Sedalia, Missouri.
The 3 Rare Parsons Palace Car Advertising Sleeves:Each photograph comes housed in its own original paper advertising sleeve from the famous Parsons Palace Car Photo Co. of St. Louis, MO. - Operated by itinerant photographers Frederick R. Parsons and Andrew B. Duncan, these sleeves feature the iconic engraved graphic of their functional railroad studio passenger car.
- The front features their trademarked \"Aristo Finish\" branding and marketing layout. Note that the dark markings visible on the paper are actually the underlying W.E. Bush logo details showing through the aging, thinning paper stock rather than ink writing. These pieces are highly celebrated by ephemera collectors and precisely date the group between 1888 and 1895.
Condition - Cabinet Cards: All three cards are in Very Good antique condition with strong contrast, clear mid-tones, and minimal foxing. Minor natural edge and corner wear as expected with age. The text and embossed details for Deane, W.E. Bush, and Hinkel remain sharp and legible.
- Parsons Sleeves: Offered in Poor, heavily aged antique condition. The paper envelopes show significant deterioration, thinning, tearing, chipping, and paper loss (particularly around the edges and opening slots). They possess a heavy, natural age-toned patina. Despite the fragility and structural damage, the core railroad car illustrations and branding text remain recognizable and legible. Please review all photos carefully to evaluate the exact state of the paper sleeves.
