Vintage Mexican Barro Negro Ceramic Candelabra or candlestick, possibly circa 1970s. “Barro Negro” is a primitive pottery making technique and style from Oaxaca, Mexico using black clay. The pieces and color become fully realized after firing. The candelabra has a unique floral appliqué motif, both made to accommodate three tapers. Handbuilt with slight variations in scale and surface decoration.Unsigned. The floral applique is similar to that used by Doña Rosa of Coyotepec, who is known for developing the barro negro technique. Her family continued to produce pieces after her death, so this could be from the family.10 1/2\" tall; 7 1/2 wide at top, 5\" wide at base.Excellent vintage condition. No chips or cracks noted.
