For sale is a rare and beautiful deep green piece of Moldavite from the Czech Republic. This specimen weighs 2.72 grams.
Moldavites are a tektite that formed nearly 15 million years ago due to an impact which created the 23 km diameter Nördlinger-Ries crater in southern Germany. This particular specimen was found around Chlum, in the Czech Republic, nearly 450 km away from the site of impact. Almost all Moldavite is found in the Czech Republic, with limited amounts found in far eastern Germany, and northern Austria.
Regarding Certificates of Authenticity (COAs) - Unfortunately, the fact that there is no official governing body for the sale of Moldavite means that they are an unregulated item; meaning that any COA that comes with a piece of Moldavite is worthless and has no binding value for insurance or legal purposes.
For those reasons, I cannot in good conscience offer a certificate of authenticity. I can however guarantee you as an experienced collector, geologist and meteoriticist, I can personally guarantee the authenticity of this specimen. I personally went to the Czech Republic to mine for moldavite and to purchase moldavite direct from the miners.
