Here we have a beautiful museum quality large Desmostylus molar fossil from the Temblor Formation in Coalinga, California. It dates back 15.5 million years ago to the Miocene. Desmostylus was a large hippo like animal that lived in and around the ocean. The tooth is in the original matrix that it was found, it's mostly composed of sea shell fragments.
