This listing is for one New Old Stock flicker bulb: Balafire style with a magnetized filament, but in a Flame shape. This was Abco\'s 1970s-era version of the Gas-Glo (\'GasFlame\" Flicker bulb), intended to create a ‘gas light flame’ appearance for outdoor lanterns and house lights.
NOTE: I am listing several of these bulbs separately - all either tested and working and/or untested in original packaging. Each listing offers something a little different. New bulbs come with original packaging with wear that is typical for a 50 year old product (photos featuring three of the same product feature the range of what you may receive). I have not opened original packaging to test them (duh!), so I\'m including photos and video of a matching, out-of-packaging product in order to help you gauge what can be expected. Please check my store to consider and/or inspect these while they last. :)
Where Abco\'s bulb differs slightly from its more famous Gas-Glo counterpart was likely a patent workaround: instead of having a magnet inside the bulb to keep the filament moving, it has a small round magnet embedded/affixed to the outside of the bulb, which you can see in some of the photos. This is admittedly an educated guess: I found no information about these when I headed down the Google Lens rabbit hole both visually and via keyword -- but I did find a bit about a patent taken out by the founder of Kyp-Go and a very recent episode of Tech Connections).
One thing that wasn\'t patented? Color. \'Cherry Black\' appears to have been right up there with Harvest Gold and Avocado Green, as both brands offered flicker bulbs in this color - 1970\'s take on purple.
If you know anything about these bulbs, I\'d welcome a message so I can update the listing.
Thanks!
PS- this order will be carefully packaged and ground shipped using 100% post consumer packaging materials -- I know the venn diagram between vintage collectors and environmentalism isn\'t an entirely overlapping circle, but I know many of you care about this kinda stuff, too.
