One Piece Carddass Hyper Battle 1999 BGS Lot LuffyC01 Zoro Sanji Mihawk \"Rookie\" For Sale

Offered here is an exceptional collection of five early Japanese One Piece Carddass Hyper Battle holographic cards from 1999–2001, professionally graded by Beckett.

This is not simply a group of vintage One Piece cards. The lot brings together some of the earliest and most historically significant card appearances of Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Sanji and Dracule Mihawk, all from Bandai’s original Japanese Carddass era.

The Carddass Hyper Battle series began in Japan in November 1999, shortly after the launch of the One Piece anime. The First Stage contained only 42 unique cards and was distributed through Japanese Carddass vending machines in small packs of four cards for 100 yen. The First Stage also introduced the first six holographic cards of the Hyper Battle line.

Unlike modern booster products designed primarily for collectors, these early cards were inexpensive vending-machine releases intended to be handled and played. This makes surviving examples with strong surfaces, edges and corners particularly desirable today, especially when already authenticated and encapsulated by Beckett. Collector research has specifically noted the difficulty of finding early Hyper Battle foils without edge, corner and surface wear.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF THE CARDS

1999 Monkey D. Luffy #C01 – Beckett 8.5 NM-MT+

From the very first Hyper Battle First Stage, released in November 1999.

C01 is the first numbered card of the inaugural set and is widely regarded by vintage One Piece collectors as Luffy’s rookie card and his first official TCG appearance. Collector references also identify it as the inaugural foil-treated Luffy character card from this first generation of One Piece trading cards.

1999 Roronoa Zoro #C07 Holo – Beckett 7.5 Near Mint+

Also from the historic First Stage, C07 belongs to the same November 1999 release and is recognized as Zoro’s first Character Holo. Zoro’s C06 is his earlier non-holographic character appearance, making C07 especially important for collectors specifically targeting the character’s first foil/holographic card.

2000 Sanji #S13 Holo – Beckett 9 Mint

Released in the Second Stage in January 2000, before the later character-card versions of Sanji appeared in subsequent Hyper Battle products.

The Second Stage contained 42 unique cards and was again sold through Japanese Carddass vending machines in four-card packs for 100 yen. Contemporary set documentation notes that the cards came wrapped in a white paper band together with small gameplay/rules flyers.

S13 is documented by specialist collectors as Sanji’s first Special Card and his true Hyper Battle rookie appearance, making this early holographic Sanji particularly significant.

2000 Dracule Mihawk #C170 Holo – Beckett 9 Mint

C170 comes from the Fourth Stage, released in June 2000. This 42-card release expanded the series into the Baratie/Arlong Park period and specifically introduced Dracule Mihawk into the Hyper Battle card checklist. C170 is the first Mihawk character card listed in the series and is the holographic version shown here.

Like the earlier stages, Fourth Stage was distributed through Carddass vending machines in four-card packs for 100 yen.

For Mihawk collectors, this makes C170 a particularly important early Japanese card: his first Hyper Battle character appearance and an early holographic Mihawk issue from 2000.

2001 Zoro & Sanji #S97 Holo – Beckett 9.5 GEM MINT

The centerpiece of the lot.

S97 comes from Grand Line Compilation 1 – “The Great Conquest! Little Garden!!”, released in June 2001. The set contained 43 unique cards and was once again distributed through Japanese Carddass vending machines in packs of four for 100 yen.

In the documented Hyper Battle chronology, S97 is the first Zoro & Sanji card listed together as a dedicated pairing, preceding the later C499 Zoro & Sanji card from Grand Line Compilation 3.

This makes S97 an especially attractive piece for collectors of the famous Zoro/Sanji rivalry: an early holographic card dedicated to both characters together, preserved here in an exceptional BGS 9.5 GEM MINT grade.
