Handsome antique playing card with a photograph of Avalon on Santa Catalina Island, printed more than 100 years ago.This early view of the town, looking south, shows tents on the beach and a steamer at the pier, likely the S.S. Hermosa. The scan below gives a closer look:This card measures measures 6.2 x 9 cm [2-1/2" x 3-1/2"] and was published as the seven of hearts in a deck of California souvenir playing cards in 1898 by R. J. Waters, 110 Sutter Street, San Francisco.On the reverse side of the card has a black and white rendering of the Great Seal of the State of California, "Eureka," with light orange colored poppies, the state flower, flowing from it.Condition: This original card is in very good condition, bright and clean, with strong corners, and no rips, tears, or creases.
