Up for sale is a beautiful, investment-grade original Northwest Coast Indigenous rawhide frame drum hand-painted by the renowned late Coast Salish artist Manuel Salazar (1966–2024). This striking piece is signed and dated \"M. Salazar - 92\" directly along the bottom margin.Manuel Salazar was a proud member of the Cowichan Tribe in Duncan, British Columbia. He was widely celebrated for his unique ability to interpret the ancestral legends of his Salish heritage by fusing traditional formline architecture with clean, contemporary graphics.This drum features a complex polychrome design executed in black, deep red, and slate grey tones. The central figure displays a stylized human ancestral/shamanic entity flanked by two powerful bird motifs (representing Raven or Eagle spirit guardians).The reverse features a traditional star-pattern rawhide lacing system with an integrated, rawhide-wrapped wheel handle at the center.Condition:
The hand-painted acrylic artwork on the face of the drum is in pristine condition with vivid color saturation and no fading, rubbing, or flaking. However, please note thatthe drum has a structural split in the rawhide skin on the side rimthat extends through to the back edge (clearly shown in the close-up photos). Because of this tear, the drum is no longer functional as a playable musical instrument and is being sold strictly as adecorative fine art wall display piece.
