Al Anthony was an Entertainment pioneer in assembling ?The World?sGreatest Impressionists.? Together with many look-a-likes hebooked shows from city to city impersonating many of the greatestHollywood TV & Movies SuperStars. Al Anthony was a key figure inpromoting low-budget \"Drag Shows\" as we see today in the Gay andLGBTQ+ community. Some of the likes that Al Anthony hired are BillAcosta impersonating Tony Bennett, Truman Capote & KatharineHepburn, Quinn Callahan as Madonna, Sy as Michael Jackson, BruceRobins as Liberace, Sharon Michaels as Barbara Streisand and PaulBoland as Elvis just to name a few. Online rumor has it he spent timewith Liberace himself (not verified). Al Anthony started his careeras an American radio personality and pioneer rock and roll DJ.Anthony was most well known as a disc jockey in California during the50?s & 60s also owning broadcasting stations.
Al Anthony is the most successful producer in the history of theDrury Lane, with the biggest box office hits ever. His original showSalute to the Superstars opened in 1981 and ran for almost oneyear, then moved to the Drury Lane Water Tower and played three moremonths. At the same time, Al opened Superstars \'82 at DruryLane and another hit show played for six more months. The Superstarsshows hit the road and played successful engagements in Dallas,Cleveland, Seattle, Mexico City, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, andPhiladelphia. Al went back to Palm Springs, and during the next 10years he was the entertainment director at the Hilton Riviera Hotel.He produced many musicals. In 1985, Al Anthony returned to the DruryLane for another new smash version of the Superstars, Superstars\'85, which ran six months. He played and sang in his own smallgroup, and worked all over the Midwest before finally hittingCalifornia and getting his first recording contract with ColumbiaRecords doing several albums with a big selling single called ILove You So Much It Hurts Me. He signed a movie contract withWarner Bros. and did many of the TV variety shows including DickClark\'s American Bandstand, the Tonight show, and theEd Sullivan Show. Al has owned hotels and nightclubs in PalmSprings and Hawaii, but music and show business are his life. He hasappeared with top stars including Bob Hope, Jane Russell, JerryLewis, Betty Grable, Rip Taylor, Ricky Nelson, and Lou Rawls. Hisgreat stabilizer is faith and trust in God to handle the stress andproblems. His Chicago mentor, Tony de Santis, introduced him to theLazzara brothers, the new Drury Lane South owners, and away they gowith the world premiere of The Phantom and the Superstars.
