The Artist: Harry Bonath (1903–1976) was a prominent Seattle-based advertising artist, illustrator, and watercolorist who ran his own firm, Harry Bonath & Associates. He frequently published work in The Seattle Times and exhibited at regional museums
The Origin: The fair commission selected several local artists to design guidebooks, maps, and posters. Bonath's design was adapted from a primary oil/watercolor painting he made specifically for the event. Because nearly 10 million people attended the fair, this posters became a cherished souvenir of a transformative moment in Seattle's history.
