Original Soviet Army Captain\'s Wool Greatcoat – Cold War Era – Pre-1980
An historic Soviet military officer\'s wool overcoat, believed to date from the 1960s–1970s, complete with shoulder boards, collar insignia and matching belt.
An interesting example of Cold War militaria with a personal history dating back to approximately 1980.
History and provenance
This coat was acquired by my friend while travelling in Turkey around 1980.
According to her recollection, she obtained it directly from a soldier in exchange for food, in a town near the border which was known for a famous monastery.
Unfortunately, she no longer remembers the town\'s name, although the story of the exchange has been retained with the coat ever since.
The soldier\'s nationality and the exact circumstances of the exchange have not been independently established.
The coat has been privately retained for approximately 45 years and has not been recently acquired from military surplus stock.
Military details
The shoulder boards display four gold-coloured stars with a single red longitudinal stripe, consistent with the Soviet Army rank of Captain (Капитан).
The collar features distinctive red tabs with gold-coloured star-and-wreath emblems.
The precise military branch has not been confirmed.

Please note: The exact manufacture date, original owner and service history are unverified. The acquisition story is based on the recollections of the person who obtained the coat in1980.
