Owen Roberts (1835–1915), Clothworkers’ Company – Autograph Letter Signed (ALS), 24 December 1886, to J. S. C. Heywood (1848–1913), Drapers’ Company Liveryman. On Clothworkers’ Hall, Mincing Lane, E.C. printed letterhead with Telephone No. 2275.Single sheet, neatly penned in brown ink.

Content: A detailed administrative letter concerning Teachers’ Training & Registration Society scholarship funding. Roberts explains the Company’s fixed award levels – £15 per annum, previously £21 in February 1877, and £25 as late as May 1886 – and notes that standing orders prevented any further increase until 1889. He adds that he had “forgotten this when you called,” confirming direct personal dealings between Roberts and Heywood.

Significance: Roberts was one of the key Victorian educational administrators, responsible for scholarship oversight and teacher‑training finance within the Clothworkers’ Company. Heywood, a Drapers’ Company liveryman, appears frequently in inter‑livery educational correspondence.
