Akua'ba are sculptured wooden figures that are believed to induce pregnancy and ensure a safe delivery and a beautiful, healthy infant.
After a successful birth, a mother may give the akua"ba to a daughter to play with or use to teach child care.
These two examples are older versions, collected pre 1950. Some remnants of the adorned beads remain. Early examples of these sculptures do not show arms.
