Item Type: Matched Pair of Horse-Drawn Carriage / Buggy Side Sconce Lanterns.

Era: Late Victorian to Turn of the Century (circa 1890s – 1910s).

Construction & Materials:

• Body: Pressed sheet steel/iron finished in satin black japan/enamel, featuring a stepped square pagoda chimney cap with decorative pierced clover/quatrefoil ventilation cutouts.

• Glazing: Heavy thick-beveled plate glass panes mounted in brass channel bezels on the front and side viewing windows.

• Interior: Dual concave nickel-plated brass reflector discs to throw and focus candlelight or kerosene light forward and outward.

• Burner Assembly: Internal spring-loaded candle tube sockets (or miniature kerosene founts) accessible via the bottom mounting stem.

• Mounting: Long cylindrical bottom socket stalks that slide directly into wrought iron mounting brackets on the carriage or coach buckboard.

• Latch: Heavy cast brass pivoting latch dog securing the hinged access panel.
