The photograph shows an enormous column of volcanic ash rising high above the cone during Parícutin\'s historic eruption period. Captioned in the negative:

Attributed on the image to photographer M. Navarro.
Parícutin famously emerged in Michoacán in 1943, and photographic postcards documenting the eruption became important contemporary visual records of the event. Archival collections preserve similar Parícutin photographic postcards from 1943 onward. �
