This is one of the better stones out of the collection, hand-picked for patterning. The hexagonal corallite structure is strong and clearly defined across both the front and the back, not just one face. It is unpolished, so while the pattern reads well as-is, polishing or tumbling will bring out more of it.
Natural, unpolished, and naturally lake-tumbled, found as-is straight from the shoreline. Washed and lightly oiled to bring out the detail. The oil can be rinsed off or reapplied any time for the wet look. Chips, cracks, and natural erosion are expected and normal for shoreline-collected specimens.

ABOUT PETOSKEY STONES
Petoskey stones are fossilized colonial coral, Hexagonaria percarinata, that lived in the warm shallow sea covering this region during the Devonian period roughly 350 million years ago. Glaciers later broke the fossil beds apart and scattered the pieces across Northern Michigan, where Lake Michigan continues to tumble and expose them along the shoreline. The distinctive six-sided pattern is the preserved skeleton of the individual coral polyps. The Petoskey stone was named the Michigan state stone in 1965 and is found in significant quantity almost nowhere else in the world.
