In pristine condition, Magnificent-thick glaze with such vibrancy & yet this is over 100 years old!
Beneath the glaze, an extraordinary painting-simple but, enchanting. Looking at the bottom while turning the vase, the shapes appear to be objects like homes, or a Cathedral with a grey overcast into a beautiful blue sky ending with a floral crown. Just amazing..
The vase is 9" tall with a 2" base and a 1" opening at top. The amphora-or, vases arms are very unique as they seem to drop like cascading handles.
This specific mold known as the 'Vase Shape 1679', is a highly regarded Art Nouveau design created by the notable Norwegian sculptor, Georg Andreas Heggelund, B.1860-D.1916
The decoration code is also present, '302e'. Interesting about this, a note attached to this vase while stored in box, states that it's believed to have been a first run of this style! With the possible error seen at (the decoration code) "302e", note the space after the 2 of "302___e"-seems there's a faint '4' between the 302 and the e. Also, "1679" is etched in at the bottom- where it's also inked at the top;
Having both a carved & painted "1679" is a classic hallmark of authentic antique porcelain. It proves that the shape chosen by the potter matches the specific pattern instructions given to the artist later on in production! Pointing that this was one of the first vases of this model produced!
An amazing piece for sure! The last photo shows another example of this vase without the errors & etching. Likely a later dated vase of the same mold & paint.
I have many other fine pottery, some that I've already sold-other's seem to sit there for some time before even getting noticed, and then literally 100's of pieces in storage. I'd rather not disturb them for fear of breakage & so have been sorting through them slowly, listing some-keeping some, other's get sold within an hour or two because I show them off to local collectors.. There's been vases from the 17th & 18th century! Even I don't know what I'm going to come across-but then there's the issue selling on doesn't seem to be the best place but, we'll see what happens. Anyways, my goal is to get them to where they need to be so that they can be loved & enjoyed and not just sitting in darkness! And hopefully they'll be loved and passed along for another 100 years!!
