Quonochontaug RI Postcard Tichnor Bros. Mailed 1966 Greetings from Rhode Island:
$6.29

This vintage Greetings from Quonochontaug, R.I. Lusterchrome postcard, produced by Tichnor Bros., Inc. of Boston, Massachusetts, offers a pristine snapshot of mid-century coastal leisure and ephemeral correspondence. The card was mailed with a crisp 4-cent Abraham Lincoln stamp from the Prominent Americans series, bearing a clear circular postmark from Bradford, Rhode Island, dated June 28, 1966. The verso is dominated by a personal, handwritten message in clear cursive from a sender named Nancy to a recipient, Lynn Jaquay, in Henley Village, West Brook, Connecticut. Nancy apologizes for the delay in writing, expresses hope that the weather has not been too hot, and sends her love and good wishes, concluding with Write Soon. This brief exchange encapsulates the casual, friendly communication typical of the era, carried on a mass-produced souvenir. The card itself is a prime example of the chromogenic printing process that defined the post-war postcard industry, with Tichnor Bros.\' proprietary Lusterchrome finish providing a characteristically glossy and vibrant surface. The Greetings from header identifies Quonochontaug, a historic beach community spanning Charlestown and Westerly in Washington County, Rhode Island, a popular destination for New England tourists. The combination of the specific 1966 postal history, the identifiable Tichnor Bros. manufacturer\'s mark, the use of a contemporaneous definitive stamp, and the complete, legible social message renders this piece a multifaceted artifact of 1960s Americana, tourism, and philately. The minor edge wear and expected age-related toning are consistent with its status as a successfully mailed vintage ephemera item.
