An authentic, hand-dated 1964 signed portrait of Ralph Webster Yarborough (1903–1996), the undisputed leader of the progressive wing of the Texas Democratic Party. Serving in the U.S. Senate from 1957 to 1971, Yarborough was the only Southern senator to vote for all major Civil Rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s, as well as LBJ’s War on Poverty and Great Society programs.
Yarborough is also famous for riding in the presidential motorcade in Dallas on November 22, 1963, just two cars behind President John F. Kennedy. This portrait was personally inscribed and sent by Yarborough in early 1964, just months after the assassination.
