Rare original cabinet card of Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910). Eddy founded The Church of Christ, Scientist, in New England in 1879. She also founded various secular newspapers, religious magazines, and wrote numerous books and articles. Her most well known work being "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures".
Imprint of Fox & Symons, Salt Lake City, Utah. Note that this doesn’t mean the photo was taken in Utah, but most likely the photographer “pirated” this image (a photo of a photo) from another photographer, which was commonly done, especially with notable people. The vignette style also supports this idea.. the mask could have been used to hide the original photographer’s info and edges of the original cabinet card or CDV.
Cabinet card is 6.5" x 4.25" with blank, clean back, and is in excellent antique condition.
