Description: A rare partial orbicule from the famous orbicular granite deposit on Boogardie Station near Mount Magnet, Western Australia. This orbicule has partially weathered out of its host rock and part of its front face has detached, exposing the specimen's striking interior. The Boogardie orbicular granite deposit is hosted by a pink, medium-grained, late Archean granitic rock (approximately 2.7 billion years old), comprising biotite granodiorite that becomes tonalitic in places. Specimens of this rock are now relatively scarce as the deposit has not been significantly mined since the late 1990s. This completely natural and unmodified specimen is a beautiful souvenir from deep time, and an essential specimen in any geology collection!
