From Bertha's, (my mother) estate collection comes thisexceptional nun’s Chaplet with Reliquary Crucifix containing a beautiful giftrelic, with a Bishop's intact red wax seal. The relic is just above the seal.The description inside the cross is of an "ex arca sepulerali” - fragmentfrom the coffin.
St. Therese was buried on 4 October 1897, in a Carmeliteplot, in the municipal cemetery at Lisieux, where her parents had been buried.Her body was exhumed in September 1910 and the remains placed in a lead coffinand transferred to another tomb. This fragment is BELIEVED TO BE from the 1910exhumation and is wood collected by a Carmelite sister.
The Reliquary is 2.5 inches long, is made of bronze withebony inlays and it weighs 25 grams. The beads are 10mm long. The Chaplet iscomplete and came to my mother from her sister who was, and died, a Carmelitenun. The screw holding the back plate closed appears to be a replacement and itcan open and close easily with the hand. A small screwdriver will be includedas a gift.
