This listing is for a very rare Austrian (possibly Swiss) traveler’s clock.
Traveler’s clocks were the earliest form of carriage clocks.
They were made for transport, utilizing balance wheels and hairspring oscillators rather than pendulums.
This is a very rare piece dating to the 2nd half of the 18th century.
The movement has 4 trains with fusee chain and repeater functions. The clock offers time, strike (for the hour), repeater strike (for the 15 min, 30 min, 45 min, and hour) and alarm.
The casing was made with ornate boulle work. The clock sits on a matching stand.
This clock is already rare, but it is even more rare to find one still retaining its original stand AND its original leather travel case.
The leather travel case measures 8.5 x 5.75 x 8.75 inches.
The clock on stand measures 4.25 x 7.4 x 4.5 inches.
The movement was last serviced in 2015. We recently tested the clock. It did not stay running. It’s probably due for a tune up as it had been in storage for about 7 or 8 years.
