RARE ANTIQUE NAPOLEON & JOSÉPHINE PORCELAIN FIGURES — PAIROffered for sale is a highly unusual and decorative pair of antique porcelain figures representing Emperor Napoleon I and Empress Joséphine.Each figure measures approximately 11 inches tall.Based on the style, modeling, hand-painted decoration, gilding, and porcelain body, I believe these figures are most likely French, possibly Old Paris porcelain. However, the attribution should be considered an informed opinion rather than a guaranteed identification.The underside of the bases appears to have traces of a worn red mark or inscription, but unfortunately it is no longer legible enough for me to identify with certainty. It may originally have included a French country-of-origin inscription such as “Made in France,” but this cannot be confirmed.These figures appear to be unusually scarce. During my research, I found related examples of Napoleon and Joséphine represented in museum collections and in published online collection databases. I also found a comparable Napoleon figure offered by a European dealer, although the known examples I located are decorated in a different color scheme.I have not found another pair in this particular color combination. The unusual blue, purple, pink, and pale green decoration may indicate a special decorative version, a commission, or a variation made as part of a larger decorative set.
