For sale, 2 German, antique porcelain figurine couple. These charming items have an interesting, nostalgic past and highly sentimental, and historical importance to collectors of Cuban memorabilia. The figurines, were purchased at Le Trianon or Le Palais Royal Le Trianon -a premier luxury jewelry and gift store in Havana, founded by Salvador Fondon in 1927.Located on Galiano Avenue (Avenida de Italia), it was renowned for high-end jewelry, fine china, porcelain, home decor and luxury watches. The store closed in the late 1950s following the Cuban Revolution.The figurines were part of a few belongings that traveled to the US during the 1960-1962 exodus to Miami, FL.
The items are authentic originals of the period, showing the classic foil red-gold sticker (sometimes yellow) with the printed Le Trianon La Habana and the blue crown with the N marks. These pieces were created in Germany, exclusively for Le Trianon. The building stood gutted for years, until it was finally demolished - no information on whether the fabulous hand-painted tiled facade was salvaged.
DescriptionThe figurines measure approximately 7 1/2" by 3" deep and 3" wide - the base being the largest.
ConditionThe condition is overall very good, considering their age and travels. Colors are very strong, gold, features, fingers, applied flowers - all well preserved - with the common loss of the lace in some areas. I pictured the spots for your consideration.
