This is a remarkably rare matching pair of antique 19th-century American calligraphy dip pens measuring just over 8 inches in length with one being slightly longer and thicker than the other showcasing their unique bench-crafted antique origin.
Both pieces feature beautifully tapered, slender wooden handles with a stunning, untouched historic patina.
Crucially, the metal nib mechanism features a clear, legible manufacturer stamp of "P. ESTEP".
Philip Estep of Middletown, Pennsylvania, is historically renowned for his premium mid-to-late 1800s (circa 1840-1860) blacksmithing and specialty steel craftsmanship. Stationary and writing equipment bearing his official mark are incredibly scarce crossover pieces that rarely surface on the market.The second matching pen has a heavier historic patina and surface rust on the steel tip; while it is also stamped, the lettering on that specific pen is currently obscured by time.
