Rare Original Hindenburg Snapshots May 6th 1937 Lakehurst, New Jersey:
$149.99

Hi,
I have for you two great original B/W photos of the the Hindenburg Disaster.
Description-Two 3 1/2" X 5 1/2" B/W photos taken by one of the several photographers present when the Hindenburg crashed on May 6, 1937 at Lakehurst, N.J.
I sell more then collectables, I sell stories.
History-There were numerous photographers present when the Hindenburg caught fire and crash on May 6, 1937. Finding originals is almost an impossible task. Knowing who the photographers were are even rarer, because these photographers were there using press passes and worked or were contracted by various news agencies from around the world. Sam Shere is known as the photojournalist who took the well known famous photo of the crash and is copied and sold all over the world. Other photogrpahs of the disaster were also sent around the world on behalf of news agencys. ACME News Press was one of those agencies and were in business from 1923-1952.Tidbit-ACME comes from the Greek transliteration meaning "Summit-Highest Point-Extremity or Peak". Not A Company Making Everything!!!If you look at press photos, they usually will have a stamp or written line that says to credit the news agency, or in this case, ACME. Looking at the back of these photos can tell you more than you think. Both of these photos were taken shortly after the Hindenburg crashed and each one has a short narrative that was typed onto the actual photo. Now, you still can see the original type writer strikes on the front side of the photo. It leaves an indentation and if you hold it up to the light at an angle, you can see them. There is more beside what is typed out. In addition to each one describes what is going on in the photos, there is a purple stamp in the lower part of each one. It is stamped Fred E. Bamberger 817 West End Ave New York, N.Y. and has the words "Credit Acme" hand written above each stamp. To the lay person, they might just think this is the person that owns the photos as part of a collection. Is this true in this case? Well, let me explain! Research doesn't show every news agency that was present at the crash site. There is some information that explains what photographers were. There are several articles that talk about Fred E Bamberger, or Colonel Fred Bamberger. Bamberger was one of the photographers on scene and took numerous photos of the disaster. He most likely worked for ACME Press Photos or sold them a few of his pictures. Those photos would have gone on to be owned by ACME and would not generally cite the photographer. Here is the question. Would Fred Bamberger keep photos of other photographers? I'll use some common sense here.. and please correct me if I am wrong...but "No". Why would he care about other photographers photos when he had plenty of his own?!?! Also, the typewriting marks indicate that this was fresh in his mind and typed those words as soon as he developed them and yes, he developed his own film. Ok, lots of speculation here but no one has taken the time to carefully examine these 87 year old photos. I have. I am not a historian but I am a very accomplished and educated investigator. I spot the clues and any evidence and then come up with a conclusion. Now, could I be wrong? Of course but I am going to offer the buyer a deal they cannot refuse!!! A notarized L.O.A. that will guarantee that these photos were taken by Bamberger himself and if they can be proven not to be, I will offer a full refund to the original buyer with no expiration. You can't get that offer anywhere on but I am doing it.
I suggest you do your own research before offerding or you can just save yourself a whole lot of hours and trust mine.
These are very rare and to have come out of the Fred Bamberger collection, even rarer.
I am always looking for original Hindenburg Disaster Photographs and RPPCs of it. In all my years of collecting, I have only managed to find one originally RPPC of the disaster and a more modern, but original RPPC that was printed after the disaster. Those aren't for sale at the moment but might come up for sale at a later date.Shipping-I will ship this anywhere for $7.99. It will be shipped in a larger sturdy cardboard mailer and protected by archival quality materials. I do offer another shipping option at checkout.
The best thing about my packaging? They are easy to open! They come packed in a sturdy rip open cardboard mailer with no tape over the rip!!! How many times have you received a package only to spend ten minutes trying to open it without destroying the contents!!! No extra tape, glue, staples, or my worst fear, items shoved between two pieces of cardboard with tape on every edge requiring a surgeons scalpel to open it!!!
This is a new store for me but I have been on for over 26 years with perfect response.
Look for my other photos and photo lots.
Please contact me first with any issues.
Thanks for looking.
