Rare Roseville Pottery Pauleo 12.25\" Bud Vase 1914 Lustrous Silver/Gray/Blue For Sale

Here is a rare example of a tall \"champagne flute\" bud vase from Roseville Pottery\'s high-end \"Pauleo\" line, introduced in 1914 and produced through the 1920s, sold primarily at a special Roseville showroom on NYC\'s Fifth Avenue.
Pauleo, designed in the Arts and Crafts style, is known for its simple, elegant forms and experimental glazes. Pauleo pottery is celebrated for its wide variety of unique glaze treatments, ranging from matte finishes and lustres to crackle and veined effects. No two pieces of Pauleo are alike, as they all had glazes that produced unique results when fired.
Glaze/finish: The base glaze on the entire piece, including the underside and interior, is in the familiar glossy cream found on many Roseville pieces. The exterior color is finely \"spray-painted\" in bands of a silver-gray-light blue mix, allowing the base cream to show through in areas. The topcoat provides the high lustre finish, and has a pinkish hue to it.
Unmarked, but a known Pauleo shape, as shown on page 131 of Basset\'s \"Understanding Roseville\" reference, in a different glaze. The Bassett photo and this listing are the only examples of this shape that I could find on the internet. There is an adhesive label hand-written \"R7\" on the underside. I don\'t think it\'s original.
12.25\" tall, with a 1.5\" rim, on a 4.25\" round base. at the handles, with a 4\" interior rim.
Condition: There is a tiny, tiny nick coming down from the exterior rim. As made, there are some very small white circles in the glaze that look like paint splatter, but they are in the glaze. Also as made, there is some uneven color coverage around the exterior base. There are a few pinprick pops in the clay. Age-related crazing is present. Having said all that, this unique piece displays beautifully.
