Rare VTG 1930s National Hotel Havana Cuba Reticulated Souvenir Porcelain Plate For Sale

This beautiful and rare souvenir plate depicts the National Hotel, or Hotel Nacional de Cuba in Havana, designed by the New York architecture firm of McKim, Mead and White and opened in 1930. This souvenir plate dates from the 1930s, and was probably made by Chikaramachi, Japan, based on the existence of another (Miami FL) plate with identical shape and stamped Chikaramachi, Japan. Chikaramachi was an early branch of Noritake. A sticker that reads "Souvenir of Havana-Cuba" covers the maker's backstamp of this plate, and it was decided to leave the sticker intact even if this meant the maker of the plate would remain indeterminate. You can see a small portion of the red backstamp peeking out above the sticker which matches the red Chikaramachi backstamp of the similar Miami souvenir plate. This rare souvenir plate constitutes a highly collectible remnant of a golden era in the history of pre-revolutionary Cuba and one of its most recognizable and prestigious hotels.
This plate is in good vintage condition, with wear to the gold, and some discoloration to the bottom foot, but otherwise very good.Diameter 6 1/8"Height 3/4"
