Rare Authentic 1930s Butter-Nut Bread Die-Cut Store Display Sign w/ Rotating Price Wheel
Up for sale is a stunning, beautifully preserved piece of authentic 1930s American advertising ephemera: an original Butter-Nut Bread die-cut cardboard retail counter display.
***This is NOT a modern reproduction—this is a genuine, near-century-old survivor featuring nostalgic period litho graphics of a cheerful baker handing a fresh loaf of bread to a young girl over a counter packed with vintage preserves, pickles, and spreads.
Collector Features & Authentication:
• Functioning Price Wheel: Features the original mechanical cardboard price wheel on the reverse side, which turns smoothly to change the "Price Per Loaf" numbers visible through the front window cutout.
• Bottom Edge Hallmark: Clearly marked along the lower edge margin with "FORM NO. 23 PRINTED IN U.S.A.".
• Genuine Antique Composition: The back shows true 1930s multi-layered fibrous cardboard composition, naturally aged to a warm cream tone.
• Original Metal Hardware: Complete with the original naturally darkened black iron hanging grommet at the top and matching center eyelet rivet holding the price wheel.
Condition Report:
Excellent, authentic vintage survivor condition! This sign is 100% original and untreated. It displays spectacular genuine aging, including natural browning/foxing along the die-cut edges and minor stabilization surface creases on the back that are typical of 90+ year old cardboard. The colors remain bold and strong, and the structural integrity is fantastic with no modern touch-ups or repairs. Please examine the high-resolution photos for a close look at the beautiful aged patina.
Shipping & Handling:
We understand the fragile nature of vintage cardboard. This item will be shipped completely flat, securely sandwiched between thick sheets of rigid heavy-duty cardboard to prevent any bending or folding during transit.
