There is a great bit of history behind this radio and Acopian in general, you can find it by searching online for "Interesting History - The First Solar Radio". The ACOPIAN Model 257 P-E Solar Radio Transistorized is a blast from the past that true technocrats might enjoy as a conversation piece. Solar cells had just recently become available for consumer products and they were still very expensive. If you are looking for a collection piece or a novelty gift for a techno geek, engineer, scientist, propeller head, nerd, etc., then this could be perfect for a birthday or Christmas.
My Grandmother bought this ACOPIAN Model 257 P-E Solar Radio Transistorized radio for my Grandfather's 63rd birthday in 1957, almost 70 years ago. He was a Mechanical Engineering Professor at NMSU who studied and taught about solar energy, so I'm sure he got a big kick out of this gift. It is in the original packaging, as you can see by the address label and postmark on the bottom of the box. This is a piece of history and quite the collector's item, I assume it worked then and that is does now but I haven't tested it, it is being sold AS_IS.
I price my items to sell - that's the whole point of listing them on . I always try to price my items below the most recent "SOLD" price of similar items, so they sell quickly and you get the item for less than what others have paid for comparable items. Unlike some other sellers, I don't inflate shipping charges to make extra money at your expense. I never charge for packaging, materials, or other shipping costs.
I've been selling on for over 25 years, and I have always earned 100% positive response. What you see is exactly what you will get, and your item will be packaged carefully to ensure it arrives in the same condition as when it was shipped. If you have any questions, PLEASE ask them before you buy. I will answer them as quickly and accurately as possible. Thanks for looking at this listing for the ACOPIAN Model 257 P-E Solar Radio Transistorized!
