Red River NM Azurite Malachite Copper Ore 3.55 Oz – 92% Cu XRF Specimen.
High-Grade Azurite & Malachite Copper Mineral Specimen

Near Red River Mining District – New Mexico

Offered here is a beautiful and heavily mineralized 3.55 oz (approximately 100.6 gram) copper ore specimen originating from near the historic Red River Mining District of northern New Mexico.

This piece displays an outstanding combination of deep royal/cobalt-blue azurite, vivid green malachite, dark copper-rich mineralization, and contrasting matrix. One face has been cut, revealing the remarkable internal color, patterns and mineralization hidden inside the natural rough.

Under magnification, the material displays fascinating botryoidal, radiating, crystalline and finely textured mineral growth, making this an interesting specimen both visually and mineralogically.

XRF Screening

A highly mineralized area of the specimen was screened using a Thermo Scientific Niton handheld XRF analyzer. The localized reading shown in the listing photographs returned:

  • Copper (Cu): 92.01%
  • Iron (Fe): 2.66%
  • Lead (Pb): 2.25%
  • Gallium (Ga): 0.834%
  • Zinc (Zn): 0.486%
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.294%
  • Silver (Ag): 0.245%
  • Platinum (Pt): 0.237%
  • Rhodium (Rh): 0.237%
  • Cadmium (Cd): 0.215%
  • Palladium (Pd): 0.192%
  • Ruthenium (Ru): 0.087%

The actual XRF analyzer screen photographs are included in this listing.

XRF DISCLOSURE: XRF readings represent localized surface screening of the area tested and should not be interpreted as the average composition of the entire specimen, a certified laboratory assay, or a guarantee of recoverable metal content. Natural mineral specimens are heterogeneous and results can vary significantly from one location to another. Precious-metal readings have not been independently laboratory confirmed.

Excellent Lapidary & Jewelry-Making Potential

The cut face provides an excellent preview of the dramatic blue, green, black and contrasting patterns contained within the material.

This specimen may appeal to lapidary artists and jewelry makers for:

  • Slabbing
  • Cabochon cutting / cabbing
  • Polishing
  • Wire wrapping
  • Pendant making
  • Inlay work
  • Custom jewelry
  • Display slabs
  • Mineral art
  • Rock and mineral collections

The specimen could also simply be left intact as an attractive New Mexico copper mineral display specimen.

Because this is naturally mineralized material, hardness, fractures, mineral distribution and stability can vary throughout the piece. Results from cutting, polishing or other lapidary work cannot be guaranteed.
