ITEM DESCRIPTION

This Rosenthal Germany Porcelain Hugo Meisel #850 Titmouse Bird Figurine is in Excellent Vintage Condition with No Chips No Cracks No Crazing. Designed by German sculptor Hugo Meisel for Rosenthal, this beautiful vintage bird figurine dates to the 1950s.

The figurine depicts a colorful titmouse perched among leaves and flowers with its head lowered in a natural feeding or inquisitive pose. The bird is beautifully modeled with a long raised tail and finely detailed wings and feathers.

The hand-painted decoration combines warm brown and olive tones across the back and wings with a bright yellow breast and distinctive black and white markings around the head. Soft green leaves and delicate pink and lavender flowers form the decorative base beneath the bird.

The underside bears the Rosenthal Germany factory mark, the word "handgemalt," indicating hand-painted decoration, and the impressed MEISEL name.

DESIGNER HISTORY

Hugo Meisel (1887–1966) was a German sculptor and porcelain designer known particularly for his naturalistic animal and bird figures. He created numerous models for Rosenthal, where his detailed sculptural work was well suited to the company's tradition of producing high-quality porcelain animal figurines.

Meisel's designs are admired for their realistic poses, careful attention to anatomy and expressive character, making his Rosenthal animal and bird figures desirable among collectors of German porcelain.

PATTERN & DESIGN

Model #850 depicts a titmouse perched on a flowering branch with its head lowered toward the blossoms. The bird's long raised tail creates an elegant vertical composition, while the leaves and flowers provide a colorful natural setting.

The detailed hand-painted coloration emphasizes the bird's feathers and distinctive facial markings. Warm brown wings contrast beautifully with the yellow breast, black and white head and softly colored flowers below.
