MCM 1950’s Asian Chalkware Lamp ( Shade included)
THIS LAMP IS PERFECT FOR COLLECTORS!
This is a mid-century vintage chalkware figural table lamp, likely from the 1940s or 1950s, featuring a stylized Asian figure in a conical hat sitting beside a tree or tropical motif.
Material: Painted chalkware (plaster-based composite popular in mid-century lighting and decor).
Style: Mid-Century Hollywood Regency or Exotica style, characterized by theatrical, figurative designs.
Design: Depicts a seated figure wearing a conicle hat and a bright yellow tunic against a dark green and black textured base.
The appeal of this lamp comes from its materials. Chalkware allowed manufacturers to produce detailed figural forms at an affordable cost. It could be molded, painted and antiques giving the lamp the presence of sculpture without the cost of ceramic or bronze. It was also fragile, which is why many surviving examples show chips or pant loss.
In consideration of its age, this piece is in good shape. No Chips!
