Rare vintage Sanborn Viso-Cardiette portable electrocardiograph, believed to be Model 572, housed in its substantial fitted wooden carrying cabinet. Sanborn introduced the direct-writing Viso-Cardiette in 1946, making this an evocative piece of mid-century American medical and technological history.
The black control panel has handsome gold lettering, large Power and Leads selector dials, stylus/chart viewing window, switches, and paper-feed mechanism. The wooden case incorporates a hinged lid with storage compartments, carrying handle, metal latches, ventilation screen, and access doors for the chart mechanism.
A particularly appealing provenance detail is the engraved metal plaque reading:
