Scarce Antique Thermoplastic Union Case - Quad 9th Plate, Berg 1-49 (L1077) For Sale

Rare configuration of a \"double double ninth\" plate case. The case is B#1-49 \"A Family Party\", depicting a mother with child and two pets - a cat and a dog. The casting retains some luster and has no damage - neither chip nor crack and the hinges are excellent. Strong latches in fine condition. The case closes securely despite a very slight warp. Four sharp, clear ninth plates (three tintypes and an ambro) depict 1) a woman in costume identified as a gypsy, 2) a curly-haired little girl in a polka dot dress, 3) a serious man in a porkpie hat and open jacket (the only ambro), and 4) a stylish man in a bowler hat with a ribbon on his chest. The images all have different mats, frames and thickness of glass I suspect they were made at different times and may not have a relationship; however, a note inside the case states that the images were taken by Dean & Emerson of Worcester, Massachusetts.
