Scarce Vintage Strong-Boy No. 100 Squirrel Tail Block Plane West Germany VG For Sale

Offered here is an uncommon and handsome little vintage Strong-Boy No. 100 squirrel-tail block plane, made in West Germany and patterned after the familiar Stanley No. 100.This palm-sized plane retains much of its attractive blue finish, its contrasting red cutter cap, and a substantially intact gold, red, and black Strong-Boy label. The No. 100 designation is cast into the bed. The cutter is stamped “Western Germany” and is original to the plane.The distinctive curled “squirrel tail” provides a comfortable palm rest for controlled, one-handed work. These small planes are useful for light trimming, chamfering edges, and working on small wooden parts where a larger plane would be cumbersome. Its flat sole makes this a handy little trimming plane as well as an appealing collectible.The Strong-Boy line has been attributed by German tool researcher Wolfgang Jordan to Tillmanns & Maier of Velbert, Germany. It offers an interesting example of the German-made, Stanley-pattern tools produced for the export market.Overall, this example is in very good vintage condition, with scattered paint chips, finish wear, and age-related discoloration on the exposed metal. The sole shows use scratches and scattered staining. The squirrel-tail handle is intact, and no obvious cracks or repairs are visible in the casting. The identifying label remains readable, although a small portion is worn or missing.This is an attractive addition to a collection of miniature planes, squirrel-tail planes, or vintage German woodworking tools, with practical potential for the woodworker as well.
