Although I write my own listings, I lifted most of this from Google because it is SO ACCURATE to the pieces in this listing (and in my other Dymkovo Figurine listings) Plus, I already KNEW that these were authentic. I acquired them from an estate where the family wen to Russia to get them in the middle of the last century, so they are in excellent condition, all things considered. And the reason a lot of us had never seen these before is because you pretty much have to go to Kirov to get them. I looked up Kirov on a Russian map. It's not near much of anything.******************Dymkovo figures (also known as Vyatka or Kirov toys) are handmade, brightly painted molded clay sculptures of people and animals originating from the village of Cymkovo near Kirov (formerly Vyatka), Russia.Dating back over 400 years, this traditional folk art is crafted entirely by hand and traditionally passed down through generations of women.

• Ancient roots: Began in the 16th century connected to the spring whistling festival called Svistuny or Vyatsky svistun.
• Name origin: Named after the Dymkovo settlement where winter kiln-firing filled houses with smoke (dym).
• Unique creation: Red local clay is mixed with river sand, shaped by hand, dried, kiln-fired, covered with a chalk-and-milk white base, and painted with striking tempera colors.

Artistic Style and Common Subjects

• Visual hallmarks: Distinctly recognized by a chalk-white background decorated with bold geometric patterns—circles, dots, zigzags, and stripes—often highlighted with thin strips of real gold leaf.
• Human figures: Traditional depictions include local city ladies (baryni), nurses with babies, water carriers, and dancers in elaborate bell-shaped skirts.
• Animals: Popular forms include decorative roosters, ducks, goats, bears, and horses, occasionally designed as functional lot of 7 figurines features mostly circle cheeked people and most have that real square of gold leaf:

  It does not go without saying that almost all of them have really fabulous hats.
  There are condition issues with several of them and I have a big problem with these being called "toys". They're low-fired so they're VERY delicate. You can't play with these. The tree has a lot of cracks in it. You could fix it with some green tempera paint from the dollar store. The Tall Lady has some paint wear issues, but she's still magnificent. the string is broken on one of her buckets. Some of them have dust that's been there for years. I'm not going to try too hard to get it off for fear of ruining the figurine. The tree, the Tall Lady and the boat all still have their original tags, which are pretty meaningless to me because they have prices that are pre-Euro with words in Russian. I can't make heads or tails of these tags. These so-called toys are totally worth what I'm asking for them. I've done my research. And It's quite rare to find this many pieces in this condition.
