The "Defender of the Leningrad Sky"badge is a commemorative veteran's badge established in 1972 in honor of the 30th anniversary of the Leningrad Air Defense Army (1942–1972). It was awarded to WWII veterans who participated in the air defense of the besieged city Leningrad.
The defenders of Leningrad's skies were air defense soldiers, fighter pilots, anti-aircraft gunners, and sound detector operators (including blind "listeners") who heroically defended besieged Leningrad from enemy air raids. Their contribution saved thousands of lives, industrial enterprises, and the city's infrastructure. The main components of their heroism and contribution to the defense: Raid warning: "Listeners" used sound detectors to detect incoming German bombers tens of kilometers away, giving troops time to organize a defense. Attack repulsion: Anti-aircraft batteries, including those positioned in squares and on the roofs of buildings, prevented enemy aircraft from accurately bombing residential areas and factories. Air cover: Fighter pilots held off the superior Luftwaffe forces, protecting the skies above the city and Lake Ladoga, across which the "Road of Life" ran.Rare Veteran Badge for collection of commemorative, jubilee awards for WWII veterans , USSR We combine shipping!
