This attractive linen-era postcard features the St. Louis Old Cathedral, formally known as the Basilica of Saint Louis, King of France, located in downtown St. Louis, Missouri. The colorful illustrated front showcases the church\'s neoclassical facade with its tall white steeple topped by a gold orb and cross, flanked by evergreen trees against a vivid teal and gold sky — a hallmark of linen postcard artistry from the period. The reverse provides historical context, noting that the Old Cathedral is the oldest cathedral church west of the Mississippi River, that Pope Gregory XVI designated it the most highly indulgenced church in America, and that it was dedicated in 1834, serving as the official church of St. Louis from that year until 1914. Published by the Paul Monroe Company (catalog number 48402), this is a classic American linen postcard manufactured in the USA. The card dates to approximately October 1942, as noted in handwriting on the message side — the only writing present. The address side is otherwise blank, indicating the card was never mailed. The divided back format and linen texture are consistent with the 1930–1945 production era. Condition is Excellent. The colors remain bright and unfaded, corners are sharp, and the card is free of creases, soiling, or foxing. A desirable piece for collectors of Missouri topographical cards, St. Louis history, or Catholic church postcards.
