Era (1890–1915)Description Up for sale is an original Stanley No. 84 carpenter’s rule, a 2‑foot, 4‑fold boxwood rule with half‑bound brass, manufactured by the Stanley Rule & Level Co. in New Britain, Connecticut. This is an early production example, dating approximately 1890–1915, based on the multi‑line stamp: STANLEY RULE & LEVEL CO. WARRANTED NEW BRITAIN, CONN rule features the classic boxwood body with brass joints and trim, a hallmark of Stanley’s high‑quality measuring tools from the pre‑Sweetheart era. These early Rule & Level Co. pieces are increasingly hard to find in clean, intact condition. ConditionThis rule is in excellent vintage condition, especially for its age. The folding pin is intact, the half‑bound brass is complete, and all four sections fold smoothly with tight joints. The boxwood retains a lighter tone with normal age but no dark staining, and the lacquer finish shows no scratches, chips, cracks, or warping. All stampings are clear and fully legible. A remarkably well‑preserved example of a genuine early Stanley carpenter’s rule.
