Brand new US Military surplus right shoulder insignia patches. The flag is reversed for wear on a uniform so that the "stars lead the charge." Meant to simulate the effect that the blowing wind would have on a standard flag if the bearer were moving forward, in this configuration the canton (field containing the stars) occupies the position of highest honor. The flag is also surrounded by a gold fringe which has served as an honorable enrichment on American flags since at least the 1830s.
