USSR BURAN ROCKET Soviet Space Program Vostok Night Table Lamp Vintage 1960-80s.The Soviet table lamp-nightlight "Epokha" is a popular decorative lamp of the 1960s-1980s, made in the style of the space age. Its shape resembles a television tower, rocket or futuristic monument, which well reflects the public's fascination with astronautics after the first man's flight into space and the general technical optimism of that time.
The name "Epokha" symbolized a new scientific and technical era. Such lamps were produced at the enterprises of the electrical and lighting industry of the USSR and were sold as decorative nightlights.
The design was quite simple. A low-power incandescent lamp was installed inside the base or central column. Red or white (depending on the model) transparent plastic scattered the light, creating a characteristic soft red or orange glow. Due to this, the lamp was used not for reading, but as a nightlight or decorative backlight.
On the black decorative belt at the base you can see images characteristic of the era: industrial enterprises, monuments, space motifs, silhouettes of modern buildings at that time. Such drawings were supposed to emphasize the achievements of science, industry and space exploration.
Today, these lamps have become a collector's item among fans of Soviet design, retro technology and the "Space Age" style. Especially valued are specimens with an original cord, switch, a ceiling lamp without cracks and preserved decorative drawings, as in your photo.
