Final issues are always worth grabbing, and this is the last one of Peach Momoko's Ultimate X-Men, which has been the most distinctive book Marvel has published in years. The Daniele Di Nicuolo 1:25 cover is a great send off too, the team caught mid motion in a swirl of blades and energy, sharp anime influenced linework, purples and reds bleeding through the whole frame. One copy came in for every twenty five a shop ordered. Last issues of well loved runs are the ones people scramble for after the fact, once the series is complete and everybody wants the full set.
The final issue asks the questions the whole run has been building to. It is time to say goodbye to Momoko's misfit mutants, and what the future actually holds for them is still wide open. There is a world war going on around them and no guarantee any of them come out of it. And hanging over all of it, the book wants to know what happened to Armor. Momoko wrote, drew, and colored this series herself, which is almost unheard of on a Marvel ongoing, and it is why the whole thing feels like nothing else on the shelf.
