VIETNAM WAR PROTEST, HOMELESS MEN IN PARK & 13 OTHERS by ERIK W. BORG -1960s/70s:
$235.00

We are offering 15 photographs by renowned photographer Erik W. Borg. Late 1960s/1970s. (11\" x 14\") \"ERIK W. BORG\" is stamped on the back of 13 photos; the other two don\'t have the stamp, but all of the photos were together in a group of Erik Borg\'s photos. (See below for information on him & his photography) The photos are candid, unposed shots of ordinary people, engaged in everyday activities, which is what makes them interesting and very relatable. The photos speak for themselves, but we will specifically mention a couple of them.
The Two Elderly Men - half asleep on a bench, are in what appears to be one of the Greenwich Village, New York parks along 7th Avenue. Their disheveled clothes and dirty shoes lead us to believe they were likely homeless and had slept on the bench in the park the night before.
The Vietnam War Protest March - a woman carries a flower-shaped sign that reads,\"NOT MY SON, NOT YOUR SON, NOT THEIR SON\" [which was the anti-war and anti-draft slogan used during protests by the WSP (Women Strike for Peace) organization].The organization began in 1961 during the Cold War when 50,000 women marched in 60 U.S. cities against nuclear weapon testing. During the 1960s they picketed the White House, the UN headquarters in New York City, and the Pentagon. The man in the middle of the protesters, who had likely been walking down the street, appears by his gesturing to disagree with the women\'s protest.
The Two Little Children in Ethnic-looking Clothing - we wonder if the photo could have been taken during the time Erik Borg spent in Lapland, which is a region stretching across northern Sweden, Norway and Finland.
**NOTE** - Erik Walter Borg (1945-2020) grew up on Maryland, went to college in Middlebury, Vt where he started taking pictures and got married. He later moved to Boston, then back to Middlebury, and spent the latter part of his life in England. He is best known for his photographs for National Geographic of the Sami people of Lapland, one of which became the cover of the September 1977 issue of National Geographic magazine. He was a compassionate person who had deep concern for those less fortunate. A supporter of the Civil Rights movement, he participated in the 1965 March on Selma. Erik got drafted in 1969 during the Vietnam War, and although passionately against the war, he made no effort to avoid the draft and served during the War.
