Very unique and collectible, this 4.25\" high x 9\" wide (at top) basket it made entirely of 1950\'s greeting cards that all had flowers. 7 panels with 2 cards in each panel make up the side of the basket with larger 2 cards as the bottom. The panels and bottom are double sided and this is the first one I have come across that has gold fabric between the cards on the outside. More fabric seems to be at the bottom of the side card, making the space between them cushiony. Very detailed sewing and stitching using green, red and pink thread around all 4 corners of each card.
Most popular from the 1950 through the 60s, it was a great way to repurpose the cards into charming, functional trinket bowls.
The classic construction involves cutting greeting cards into specific geometric panels, punching evenly spaced holes along the borders, edging each piece with a blanket stitch, and then sewing or lacing the panels together. And then this one went the extra distance and put the gold material inside the side panels.
