This spectacular vintage hand-loomed wool runner features a vibrant rooster folk art design. It measures 12.5" x 72" including the fringe, making it ideal for a long dining table, console, or as a striking vertical wall tapestry.
The piece features five beautifully detailed multi-colored roosters woven directly into a rich, deep red field with striking blue and black side accent stripes. It boasts tight edges and beautifully crafted macramé fringe work at the ends. The macramé knots attach evenly across the 12.5" width, demonstrating uniform tension.
The runner is made of sheep's wool woven on a traditional foot-loom. It is flat-woven using a "weft-faced" technique, meaning the thick wool colored threads running horizontally completely cover the structural vertical strings. This creates a sturdy, thick textile that feels like a rug.
If you look closely at the pics of the rooster's body, the colorful shapes are built by changing the horizontal wool yarn blocks right in line with the red background. This geometric, pixelated block style is classic Zapotec supplementary weft inlay.
This beautiful textile is fully reversible. On one side is the mirror image of the other.
