VTG Italian Hand Painted Ceramic Soup Tureen Rare Set Lid Ladle Under Plate 12"
A complete late twentieth-century Italian soup tureen ensemble, circa 1970s–1980s, comprising the octagonal tureen, fitted lid, matching underplate or stand, and ceramic ladle. The set is marked “HAND PAINTED ITALY” and carries model or production number 82/13.
The substantial glazed earthenware or ceramic body is formed in an architectural octagonal profile, with corresponding geometry carried through the tureen, cover and serving plate. Hand-painted polychrome floral bouquets decorate the cream-toned surfaces, introducing colour across the otherwise formal, symmetrical construction.
The fitted lid completes the covered serving form, while the matching ceramic ladle and underplate preserve the original four-piece serving arrangement. At approximately 12 inches in diameter and 10.1 lb combined, the ensemble has considerably greater scale and physical presence than a standard table-service tureen.
The decoration and construction place the piece within Italian traditional tableware of the latter twentieth century.
